Description:"Recent work by Evenson and Johns 995-hereafter EJ) notes that significant severe weather episodes (SSWEs) in the northwestern United States occur at an average frequency of about two per year. These episodes, which are generally atypical of the type of severe weather commonly found in the western United States (e.g., isolated high based thunderstorms producing damaging winds), have been found to produce severe weather over a relatively large area and can be quite destructive"--Page 1.
