Description:Objectives: 1. Estimate fishing effort, landings and catch-per-unit of effort (CPUE) of adult river herring (alewife and blueback herring) in Virginia in spring 1994. 2. Determine the present status of the stocks relative to former years by comparison of landings and CPUE. 3. Estimate current biological statistics (age and size frequencies, and species composition) of river herring and American shad. 4. Estimate total mortality (Z) from CPUE data.
