Description:The United States is a major consuming and harvesting nation for tuna and tuna-like species. In 1997, the U.S. consumed over 370,000 mt of canned tuna worth in excess of $400,000,000 ex-vessel. In the Pacific Ocean alone, the U.S. tuna harvest was over 200,000 mt, valued in excess of$200,000,000 ex-vessel. United States production oftuna and tuna-like species from the North . Pacific was from several major fisheries, including sortie that straddle the Equator.
