Description:Living shorelines are becoming an increasingly important tool in the coastal protection tool box as coastal erosion in the United States is exacerbated by the impacts of climate change. In response to the growing recognition of the importance of preserving natural ecosystems and mitigating the impact of climate change, society is gradually shifting towards adopting these environmentally friendly approaches. However, permitting novel living shoreline projects poses significant challenges due to the existing legal framework and management practices.
