Skill of 11 AM and 11 PM Forecasts in Updating 5 AM and 5 PM 3rd Period PoP and Temperature Forecasts at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

  An interesting question recently arose at WSFO Pittsburgh, namely, how much is the 3rd period forecast improved by information received in the six hours between a five o'clock (a.m. and p.m.) forecast release and the eleven o'clock forecast release? In order to answer this question for Pittsburgh, 3rd period PoP and temperature forecasts, released at five o'clock, were compared to the skill of forecasts verifying at the same time, but issued six hours later.
