Description:To date, the development and selection of artificial substrates for mesophotic and deep-sea coral restoration has not been comprehensively reviewed and evaluated. This report was developed by the Mesophotic and Deep Benthic Communities (MDBC) Coral Propagation Technique Development (CPT) project team to present a synthesis of existing information and literature on artificial substrates relevant to the development of propagation methodologies for restoring mesophotic and deep benthic corals. This report aggregates best practices, insights, and recommendations related to the use of artificial substrates in coral propagation applications from the MDBC and shallow water coral restoration communities.
