Description:The International Field Year for the Great Lakes (IFYGL) - an intensive field investigation of Lake Ontario and its drainage basin - was a joint Canadian and United States contribution to UNESCO's International Hydrological Decade (1965- 74). It was a program of coordinated research into the physical, chemical and biological of Lake Ontario designed to improve our understanding of the lake and its basin - an understanding required for the better management of Great Lakes resources.
