Description:This report presents in detail the methods and basic results of a benthic survey designed to determine the abundance and biomass of both the macro- and meiobenthos of southeastern Lake Michigan. Sediment cores were collected at monthly intervals from May to November 1976 and 1977 by diverse users using SCUBA. Sampling depths were 11, 17, and 23 m. Organisms retained in screens with aperture openings of 595 [mu]m, 106 [mu]m and 45 [mu]m were counted and identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible. Results are presented as a series of tables giving the following data: (1) mean number of organisms per square meter, (2) actual number of organisms per replicate core, (3) mean-dry weight biomass in grams per square meter, (4) actual dry weight per replicate core and (5) vertical distribution of organisms per replicate core (1976 only).
