The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Integrated Ecosystem Assessments (IEA) have the overarching goal of enabling ecosystem-based management (EBM) in U.S. marine waters. A key component of the IEA approach to EBM is the identification and monitoring of biological, ecological, and sociological indicators to assess the status and health of the ecosystem as a whole.
