Description:The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) designed and printed KRILL, an unpiloted underwater vehicle (UUV) prototype. The motivation of KRILL is for communications, imaging, and data collection. A prototype of KRILL was given to UNH to make developments alongside another version of KRILL at NUWC. The goals set this year were waterproofing the hull, reconfiguring the vehicle’s electronics, implementing control systems, and ballasting KRILL for neutral buoyancy. The current KRILL team was able to waterproof the UUV by replacing vulnerable components and this was backed by multiple water tests without any leakage. Additionally, KRILL was made neutrally buoyant with temporary ballast. Furthermore, all three of KRILL’s thrusters were configured with ArduSub. This was accomplished by rewiring all the electronic components. From these findings, it can be determined that KRILL is capable of being controlled via remote and further sensors will need to be integrated to accomplish NUWC’s overall mission for KRILL.
