Description:To support an assessment of the effectiveness of the recently placed sediment cap in the East Harbor area of Eagle Harbor and other cleanup actions in the East Harbor Operable Unit (OU) of the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund site, with respect to exposure of epibenthic fish to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The clean sediment cap, placed over the most heavily contaminated areas of the East Harbor OU, was intended to provide improved habitat for benthic organisms and to reduce exposure of marine organisms to PAH contaminants in Eagle Harbor. Under this Interagency Agreement (IAG), NOAA has assessed changes in exposure of three epibenthic flatfish species to the primary site contaminants by measuring three separate biochemical indices of exposure and response (biomarkers) to PAHs after placement of the sediment cap.
