Description:Data from meteorological rocketsonde and rawinsonde observations have been employed to analyze a series of high-altitude synoptic charts. Methods employed for processing the various types of data and the analysis procedure used are described. Broad-scale analyses of the 5-, 2-, and 0.4-mb surfaces, primarily covering North America and adjacent ocean areas, are presented at weekly intervals for 1968. A brief discussion of the height and temperature fields is also given. Circulation and temperature changes associated with a major stratospheric warming during January are among the discussion items.
