Description:The NOAA/OAR/Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) is located on Virginia Key in Miami, Florida. During the late 1960s, the precursor of NOAA, the Environmental Science Services Administration (ESSA), was reorganized, and a decision was made to establish a new laboratory and ship base on the east coast.
