Description:The purpose of this study is to provide a climatological aid for forecasting snow in northwestern Nevada. A total of 112 snowstorms affecting Reno, Lovelock, or Winnemucca were analyzed to determine if these storms could be categorized into separate types. Five separate categories were defined and are discussed. Examples of four of these types are provided. A separate discussion of the unusual thunderstorm-snowstorm occurrence on May 20 - 21, 1971, is also provided.
