Description:Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary (GFNMS) was designated in 1981 and expanded to its current size of 3,295 square miles in 2015. GFNMS is located off the California coast, extending west of southern Mendocino, Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, and San Mateo counties. The purpose of a condition report is to use the best available science and most recent data to assess the status and trends of various parts of the sanctuary’s ecosystem.
