Description:The tuna industry and the Federal Government sponsored the tuna seiner M/V Queen Mary during 1978 as a research platform for studies related to the tuna/porpoise problem. Between April 17 and June 5, 1978, the Queen Mary carried the Porpoise School Impoundment System (PSIS) to the eastern tropical Pacific to determine its efficacy and to develop procedures for examining whole schools of porpoise.
