The realization that the Earth's supply of fossil fuels and other expendable energy sources is limited has focused attention on renewable energy sources. Among these is the energy obtainable from the ocean's tides - the periodic variations of sea level caused by the gravitational pulls of the Moon and the Sun on the rotating Earth.
