  The present workshop, "Frontiers in Data Storage, Retrieval and Display," is not designed to develop specific conclusions and recommendations, although indirectly this may happen. The intent is to bring together existing and potential participants in this informal network and provide a forum for describing existing institutional systems and to present concepts for future systems. The workshop topic was selected because of the awareness of many marine institutions that there must be continual improvement in capabilities and exchanges to satisfy the expanding needs of the marine scientists, engineers, and planners who are trying to solve many problems relating to the marine environment.
