Description:Several important climate events were monitored during the year by CAC. The ENSO progressed through a high index phase, with SST anomalies reaching -3°C in the central tropical Pacific. The impact of the Spring/Summer drought of 1988 in North America was evaluated through the use of the CAC's Drought Advisories that were produced throughout the summer season. Although the circulation pattern eventually brought in Winter storms and Spring rains, a return to drought conditions occurred in the Spring 1989 throughout parts of the Plains and Far West.
