January 1990 marked the transition of the former Geophysical Monitoring for Climatic Change (GMCC) program into the Climate Monitoring and Diagnostics Laboratory (CMDL). CMDL was formed as part of an ERL reorganization, which combined the GMCC activities with those of the Climate Research Division of the Air Resources Laboratory
