Description:The Marine Protection, Research, and Sanctuaries Act of 1972, in Section 202 of Title II, directs the Secretary of Commerce, in consultation with other appropriate parts of the U.S. Government, to "initiate a comprehensive and continuing program of research with respect to the possible long-range effects of pollution, overfishing, and man-induced changes of ocean ecosystems."
