  • Description:
The Office of Meteorology’s 1996-2005 Strategic Operating Plan provides a framework for the Office of Meteorology (OM) to lead the National Weather Service (NWS) into the 21st century in those areas involving service, science, technology, and the professional development of its work force. The plan is the result of: 1) a critical examination of the OM’s current program and service responsibilities that have been reconfigured as a result of the NWS’ modernization and associated restructuring (MAR), 2) an assessment of the priorities established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NWS strategic planning activities, and 3) an evaluation of the critical service, science, technology, and training issues that confront the NWS as we continue to modernize the warning and forecast process.
