Description:Wedemonstratethattheglobalcoolingresultingfromarangeofnuclearconflictscenarios wouldtemporarilyincreasethepHinthesurfaceoceanbyupto0.06unitsovera5-yearperiod,briefly alleviatingthedeclineinpHassociatedwithoceanacidification.Conversely,theglobalcoolingdissolvesatmosphericcarbonintotheupperocean,drivinga0.1to0.3unitdecreaseinthearagonitesaturationstate ( Ωarag)thatpersistsfor ∼10years.ThepeakanomalyinpHoccurs2yearspostconflict,whilethe Ωarag anomalypeaks4-to5-yearspostconflict.Thedecreasein Ωaragwouldexacerbateaprimarythreatofocean acidification:theinabilityofmarinecalcifyingorganismstomaintaintheirshells/skeletonsinacorrosive
