Description:Temporal and spatial patterns in biomass and abundance of 16 species of groundfish and four groups of groundfish species during 1963-2002 were determined using data from annual spring and autumn research vessel bottom trawl surveys conducted by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) and the Massachusetts Department of Marine Fisheries (MADMF). Maps were created depicting abundance distributions, within five-year periods, for each species and species group. General temporal trends in abundance and biomass were modeled with regression analysis. The results indicate varying degrees of spatial change in distribution, and a general decline in overall groundfish abundance through 2002.
