Description:Under interagency support from the National Marine Fisheries Service and the Atomic Energy Commission (now Energy Research and Development Administration), the long-term research objectives of the Ecology Division at the Atlantic Estuaine Fisheries Center are to study the relation between fishery productivity and ecosystem structure and function in the coastal plain salt marsh estuaries typical of the mid-Atlantic and South Atlantic regions of the United States, and to evaluate the effects of man's activities on this ecosystem type.. During the past fiscal year, we expanded our research efforts to include the coastal region off Beaufort between Cape Lookout and Cape Fear (Onslow Bay).
