Description:This annual progress report marks the 23rd year, of uninterrupted interagency cooperative support for our research on the structure and function of estuarine ecosystems, the distribution and movement of radioisotopes in these ecosystems, and the effects of envircnmentai stresses such as heat and radiation on estuarine organisms. The complement of full-time permanent research personnel assigned to this cooperative research program remains at 24 and our internal organizational structure has been unchanged since last year's annual report. There have been no major changes in organization or policy within NOAA or NMFS which have adversely affected research progress or planning during fiscal year 1973. The office of Resource Research in NMFS initiated this year a system of internal review of research programs, which should further increase research accountability and thus improve the general quality of our overall effort.
