Description:The U. S. Navy, to accommodate a new class of nuclear submarines at its Groton, CT, base, is dredging extensive portions of the Thames River, CT. The dredging is largely new work which deepens existing channels and berthing areas from predredging depths of 32-33 ft (9.8 - 10.1 m) to 36 ft (11.0 m) plus one foot (0.3 m) overdredge.
