Description:A summary of hydrographic observations for 25 surveys on the northeast continental shelf during 1999 is presented. Distributions of station position, surface and bottom temperature, salinity, and anomalies are portrayed. The average surface and bottom temperatures and salinities have been calculated in five geographic regions over the northeast continental shelf: western Gulf of Maine (GOMW), eastern Gulf of Maine (GOME), Georges Bank (GB), northern Middle Atlantic Bight (MABN) and southern Middle Atlantic Bight (MABS). The temperature distributions for all five regions show a fairly typical seasonal pattern. In general, the northeast shelf in 1999 exhibited warmer temperatures than the reference period (1977-1987) used in these reports. The salinity anomaly distributions indicate that conditions were fresher during the first half of the year. However, salinity values were slightly above the expected conditions toward the end of summer and into the fall season.
