Description:Call letters or location identifiers have for years been used by the FAA and the NWS to identify a large number of locations within the United States and overseas. In most cases it has been possible to assign a self evident identifier. The need for identifiers has grown so rapidly that it has become increasingly difficult to meet requirements with the present system. Accordingly the FAA, NWS and other interested parties have agreed to a new NOAA/NWS identifier format which should meet all current and future requirements.
