Description:The NOAA Ship CHAPMAN departed Pascagoula, MS on 4/3/91 to evaluate a 90-ft small pelagics bottom trawl. Two survey areas included the coastal waters off Tampa Bay, FL and the De Soto Canyon area off NW Florida (Figure 1). An experiment was conducted to compare catches made by the 90-ft trawl with catches of the 123-ft Shuman bottom trawl. The cruise was divided into 3 legs totaling 36 sea days.
