Description:The family Scombridae, defined by Regan (1909) was subsequently divided by Kishinouye (1923) and Berg (1947). Most ichthyologists today agree that the mackerel-like fishes of the world belong to a single family Scombridae (Fraser-Brunner, 1950; Rivas, 1951; Collette and Gibbs, 1963; Greenwood et al., 1966; Bailey et al., 1970).
