Lopholatilus chamaeleonticeps Goode and Bean. The generic and specific names were first set forth in a publication of 1880 by G. Brown Goode and Tarleton H. Bean entitled, "Description of a new genus and species of fish, Lopholatilus chamaeleonticeps, from the south coast of New England".
