Description:This report documents material examined during the course of a study of the first year life history stages of the white hake, Urophycis tenuis, in the Georges Bank-Gulf of Maine area (Fahay et al. in prep.). Published biological studies of hake species in the western North Atlantic are often questioned because of the
possibility of misidentification of the various species, which resemble each other strongly in all ontogenetic stages.
