Description:U.S. Navy diving operations have often involved systematic, diver-compiled reconnaissance surveys of bathymetry and bottom conditions. Remote sensing has reduced the need for such field surveys, but they remain useful to scientists working in isolation, and as student exercises in diving and survey courses. This booklet describes such methods, which may be conducted by divers and snorkelers.
