Description:Fall resource assessment surveys have taken on added importance with the passing of the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976. Results of these surveys provide a long term time series of estimates of relative abundance for many species now being managed as a result of the 1976 Act. Surveys are also important as they provide researchers an opportunity to collect specimens for scientific study. The NOAA Ship OREGON II departed Pascagoula, Miss. on October 14, 1992 for the twenty-first annual survey. Twenty-four hours were devoted to sampling a dredge spoil site off Mobile Bay, Ala.
