Description:The Great Lakes and Marine Waters Center was organized by the Regents of the University of Michigan in 1974 to combine the efforts of several current University programs related to the Great Lakes. The regents stated that the reorganized program would be "more efficient internally and present a more coherent image externally." The Center was established in the Institute of Science and Technology, and includes the Great Lakes Research Division, the Great Lakes Resource Management Program, and the Michigan Sea Grant Program.
