Description:The focus of this paper is on the effects of Hurricane Camille on the economy of Harrison County, Mississippi. Hurricane Camille which struck in August 1969 is considered to be one of the most devastating to ever hit the Gulf Coast. The physical damage in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area was estimated to be about $1 billion.* An analysis of its effect on the economy could focus on various sectors or parts. I will focus on the overall economic activity in Harrison County as reflected by sales data reported by the State Tax Commission.
