Description:Cruise NF-19-09 on the NOAA Ship Nancy Foster was the fifth and final cruise of the DEEPSEARCH program and occurred from 22-30 October 2019. Overall, the cruise was very successful and we accomplished most of our major scientific objectives. The major objectives included: 1) retrieval of the NIOZ benthic lander from Richardson Hills, 2) mid-water trawling of the deep-scattering layer to collect mesopelagic fauna, 3) water column sampling for particulate organic matter, carbonate chemistry, nutrients, and eDNA, and 4) multibeam mapping of select study sites (Richardson Hills, Pamlico Canyon, and Pea Island).
