Description:This report comprises the texts of three research papers detailing studies on North Carolina estuaries. The first addresses agricultural runoff and water quality in North Carolina coastal areas; present understanding of the freshwater and nutrient flows from natural and agricultural land is summarized. The second effort is aimed at elucidating the spatial and temporal variability of salinity at a series of fixed locations in and around Rose and Juniper bays; a predictive model is the result. The final paper is concerned with the effects of freshwater discharges into estuarine nursery areas on some juvenile fish and shellfish species; suggestions for redefining water quality criteria are offered.
