Description:This report describes a collaborative effort to conduct a phase II (pre-disturbance) reconnaissance of a possible scow schooner located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. The study, complete with recovered construction detail, represents a beginning of modern understanding of the scow or scow schooner, and includes a full plan view, an overall site map, and a cross section with what details can be gleaned thus far. The authors conclude that, in this case, investigation verifies oral tradition: the wreck resulted from the intentional grounding of the "Dan Hayes," and is an example of a vessel type about which little is known.
