Description:In recent years controversy has arisen regarding the impact that sewage effluent from the Honouliuli Wastewater Treatment Plant may have on marine communities resident in the receiving waters. Here researchers used a remotely controlled video camera system to determine the status of the marine fish communities and selected diurnally exposed macroinvertebrate species residing on the diffuser of Barbers Point Ocean Outfall, 61 m offshore of Oahu, Hawaii. This report presents a synopsis of the data from the eighth annual sampling effort carried out in April 1999, but concludes data over the years is, at best, qualitative only because of variability in optical field, resolution and turbidity.
