Description:The Law of the Sea Institute was formed in 1965 at the University of Rhode Island to serve as a means for exchanging knowledge and ideas concerning the sea and its resources, principally through conferences, workshops, and publications. The major activity of the Institute is an annual four-day conference. The conferences focus on timely topics and problems related to the exploration, exploitation and control of the world's oceans. This booklet gives a synopsis of the past year including information on the Seventh Annual Conference of the Law of the Sea Institute, held in Rhode Island and Occasional Papers that were published. It also gives a window into the year ahead. The theme of the annual conference in 1972 was "The needs and interests of developing countries."
