Description:"Why are species interactions important? Further, why examine aggregated and community-level metrics? What practical information and resource management applications can we gain from knowing about these items? We'll revisit this question at the end of this work, but very simply the productivity of living marine resources (LMRs) is mitigated by their interactions with other species and the food webs within which they function. In fact, the realized production of LMRs, the production potential of LMRs, and the ability of LMR populations to recover from perturbations have all been shown to be strongly influenced by their interactions with other species (e.g., Estes et al. 1998, Jackson et al. 2001, Frank et al. 2005, 2007, Casini et al. 2008, Sandin et al. 2008, Baum and Worm 2009, Gamble and Link 2009, Essington 2010, Tyrrell et al. 2011)"--Intro.
