Description:It is vitally important that an industry like commercial fishing state its case in the development of the southern Kenai Peninsula. While almost everyone agrees that commercial fishing is an important industry, there are almost no numbers or figures to document the extent of that importance. Data from the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission and surveys of commercial fishermen and Homer businesses were analyzed to determine how fishing affects the southern Kenai Peninsula economy. The industry generates $28 million and more than 450 full-time jobs. Tables detailing survey results are included.
