    This book examines the processes that create and sustain anoxia (the absence of oxygen) and hypoxia (the near absence of oxygen) in the Chesapeake Bay. It is organized into four chapters: the influence of circulation processes on dissolved oxygen (DO); effects of water column processes on DO, nutrients, and plankton; microbial processes, organic matter, and oxygen demand; and benthic-pelagic nutrient and oxygen dynamics. Major findings are discussed, along with the gradually developing consensus on the implications of these findings for resource management. The following chapters are included in this book: 1.
