Description:The purpose of this project has been to develop a useful and informative illustrated reference to the bottom-dwelling invertebrates commonly found in the estuaries of the northern Gulf of Mexico between Florida and Texas. Systematically, this guide addresses representatives of the major phyla which generally occur in bays, sounds, and nearshore in a variety of subtidal habitats; emphasis has been placed on the benthos routinely collected to date by the staff and students of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. The guide (with 58 pages of illustrations) was designed primarily as an instructional manual for students of marine science, but also was written for those with a vocational or avocational interest in coastal ecology.
