Description:Numerous studies (briefly reviewed here) demonstrate that significant physiological changes occur in the human body during periods of breath-holding and submergence. In order to reduce the chance of adverse effects, breath-hold skin divers are encouraged to limit pre-dive hyperventilation and submergence time. Studies and experience also show that impaired consciousness without diver awareness is possible during prolonged breath-holding submergence. Team diving procedures are encouraged to enhance the overall safety and enjoyment of breath-hold diving.
