Description:This publication presents the rationale and guidelines for the establishment of a state artificial reef program. Discussed are the benefits of the unintentional artificial reef habitat created by the oil production platforms off Louisiana's coast; the adverse effects that platform removal would have on fishing abundance; and the procedures outlined by the plan for implementing the 1986 legislation that established the Louisiana Artificial Reef Program.
