Description:In marketing perishable food products, one of the
difficulties is to establish an orderly distribution channel to provide for the smooth, rapid movement of the
good from the point where it is harvested to that where the consumer expects to buy it. Coupled with the physical distribution, there must be a communications system to indicate to the controllers of the source where the good is desired. Such a concept has been proposed in regard to
the marketing of fish, particularly fresh fish, into the Midwest. By marketing more fresh fish, either fin- or
shellfish, there should be a greater return to all members of the channel, including the fishermen.
