Description:The sight of a jagged lightning bolt licking the not-too-distant horizon undoubtedly gives rise to concerned thoughts in the minds of many sailors. This bulletin attempts to answer these concerns. It describes the physics of lightning at a layman's level, discusses how a lightning protection system is supposed to work, and explains some of the technical details necessary for the correct installation of a protection system.
